Daniel B. Kellas Community
Meet our 2018 Recipient!
David W. Butler High School
Sarah exemplifies the simple but powerful qualifications of our scholarship, that being "...demonstrating a life of service to others." In her own words, Sarah wrote "I intend on living a lifelong lifestyle of service. I want to wake up each morning knowing that something I do that day will benefit someone other than myself."
Just during her high school years, Sarah has done that and more. Sarah most recently completed two years of service as the President of the Butler High School Key Club, where she fostered a new service relationship with COSKids of Matthews. Key Club members served at COSKids monthly mentoring the young children there. Sarah also served during her senior year as a member of the Butler High School DREAM Team. She also, through her service with the Optimist Club, served as an Olympiad Coach at Greenway Park Elementary School. And in her 'free time', Sarah mentored students from the Matthews Habitat community through her Youth Group service at Matthews United Methodist Church where she also attended annual youth mission trips focused on outreach to children & families living in poverty.
We congratulate Sarah on her selection and are excited for her future as she continues her education at UNC-Chapel Hill where, we have no dount, she will continue her active service to others.
