The mission of Kiwanis International is simple: "Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time."
How Do We Do That?First, we come together as friends and neighbors to serve children and families within our own communities. Simple numbers would suggest that - the more people we have serving, the more people we can serve!
What Are Service Leadership Programs, You Ask? These are the greatest means by which we can expand our service throughout our communities. In addition, our sponsorship of these clubs provide us the opportunities to mentor and develop our future servant leaders. Here is a brief description of the Service Leadership Programs our club sponsors:
Designed to provide middle school students the opportunities to develop and participate in service projects within their schools and community, we currently sponsor & partner with the Matthews-South Charlotte Homeschool Builders Club!
This is the high school Kiwanis service club. There are more Key Club members throughout the world than Kiwanis members! But that is a positive thing, as this gives us confidence in the character and preparedness of our future leaders. Through our club, there are currently more than 300 teens serving in these sponsored Key Clubs: Butler High School, Providence High School, Trinity Prep, and theMatthews-South Charlotte Home School.
Aktion Club is the only service club specifically for adults with disabilities. The mission of Aktion Club is "To provide adults living with disabilities an opportunity to develop initiative, leadership skills and to serve their communities." Without a doubt, the members of the Aktion Club of South Mecklenburglive that mission. They assist our members with various service and fundraising projects, and our members enjoy the opportunities of assisting with their projects.
How Can I Help, You Ask? We're glad you asked - you can encourage your middle or high school aged child to join their local club; you can support our local partner, The Arc of Mecklenburg County, which supports teens and adults with disabilities, and/or you can come visit our club, check out for yourself what we do, and consider joining us in our service to these children, teens and young adults!
